Carolyn Groves

Carolyn's journey as an unschooling parent started decades before she had her own children, when her mom subscribed to John Holt's Growing Without Schooling newsletter starting in the late 70s. While she was not unschooled herself, she was raised with a healthy dose of "question authority" and the idea that learning takes place everywhere, all the time.

In 2007 when her daughters were almost 5 and 1.5, they attended the very first Life is Good Unschooling Conference, and have attended every conference since! They moved from Wyoming to Portland in 2008 primarily to live around more unschoolers in a vibrant urban community. They found both of those things and more!

Both girls are now grown and in college but Carolyn is still a passionate unschooling advocate, Portland Unschoolers Facebook Group moderator, and host of an Unschooling Chat and Meetup group at Alder Commons in NE Portland. She is also a Realtor and loves helping unschooling families relocate to & buy and sell properties in the greater Portland metro area. You can find more informaiton about what makes Portland a great unschooling city on her website, PortlandHomeschoolingResources.com.
